VENT PROGRAM OVERVIEWThe Elite Software VENT program analyzes industrial ventilation and exhaust duct systems. With VENT, optimal duct sizes can be determined that maintain both the minimum desired velocity and balanced static pressures at all duct junctions. VENT can work with both round and rectangular ducts of any duct material desired. VENT has provision for virtually all types of components found in ventilation and exhaust systems including: ductwork, hoods, fans, collectors, blast gates, system effect factors, and all types of fittings. Hoods can be selectively designed with any slot dimensions desired. Collectors can be specified as fabric filter, mechanical, electrostatic, wet, or as a combined fan and collector. VENT can also calculate the effect of temperature changes and moisture addition/removal that dryers, wet collectors, and other such items might have on the air. Essentially, VENT can be instructed to work with standard sea level air or to adjust air quantities and properties as dictated by the psychrometric air conditions. In achieving balanced static pressures at junctions, VENT allows the designer to quickly experiment with the effects of changing a duct size, fitting type, branch entry angle, hood data, or even a blast gate. VENT allows the designer to decide on the preferred way of balancing static pressures for each junction. VENT even provides the option of adjusting the cfm values of converging duct sections to achieve a static pressure balance. VENT calculates extremely fast and performs extensive error checking of the exhaust duct system. PROGRAM INPUTVENT uses full screen editing features that provide a simple "fill in the blank" data entry procedure. All input data is checked at the time of entry so that no improper data can be entered. If you have a question about what the program is requesting, you can press the "?" or F10 key to obtain additional help explanations. All data is saved to disk as it is entered. Five major types of data are requested: General Project Information, Ducts, Hoods, Collectors, and Fans. The general project data includes the date, project location, client, designer, and project name, the elevation, room conditions, duct material data, and fitting database. Duct section data must be given beginning and ending node numbers, shape (round or rectangular), dimensions, and lengths. A duct section can include any combination of duct runs and fittings. Hoods, collectors, and fans are entered as occurring at a particular node number. Hoods require a design cfm, duct entry loss factor, minimum duct velocity, slot data, and additional loss data. Collectors require the collector type (fabric, mechanical, electrostatic, wet, or fan/collector), design pressure drop, design flow rate, duct reentry loss factor, and minimum outlet velocity. Fans require entry of the inlet diameter, outlet area, fan speed, blast to outlet area ratio, outlet elbow direction, and fan performance data concerning static pressure and cfm values. Alternatively, VENT can compute required fan properties and use those directly. |
VENT FEATURES
CALCULATION METHODVENT uses the design methods and data explained in the ACGIH Industrial ventilation Manual, 20th edition. All output report results can be easily verified by hand. PROGRAM OUTPUTThe VENT Program provides both input and output reports. The input reports lists the general project data and all the specific data for duct sections, hoods, collectors, and fans. The general project data report shows the date, project location, client, designer, and project name, the elevation, room conditions, duct material data, and fitting database. The hood data report shows the hood air flow and velocity (corrected for psychrometric conditions if desired), and all slot data (velocity, dimensions, and area) if slots were used. The duct section output report shows computed duct dimensions, air flow quantities and velocities, static pressure losses, available static and velocity pressures, and all blast gate data if one was selected. The fan output data includes the flow rate at the fan inlet, the density of the air at the fan inlet, the required fan total and static pressures, and the air horsepower required. The user can specify exactly what reports to print, and all reports can be printed to the screen, printer, or to an ASCII disk file. Options are provided for specifying the starting page number and left hand margin. DEMONSTRATION DISKSIf you would like to evaluate the VENT program in further detail you can download a demonstration copy from our website, or order a copy, with complete documentation. The demonstration copies retain all the functionality of the full programs, they are just limited on the size of the project data that can be entered. Please follow this link for a description of the demonstration limits for the VENT program. SYSTEM REQUIREMENTSVENT requires an IBM compatible computer with at least 640K of memory and DOS 5.0 or higher. The computer must have either two floppy disk drives or a hard disk drive. |
