Fire protection design is primarily concerned with creating a pipe network that will supply sufficient water flow over a given hazard area using sprinkler heads and hose stream flows. Matching the available water pressure with an optimal pipe and sprinkler head arrangement is the critical component in meeting the flow requirements. Hydraulic water flow calculations are needed to verify this goal.

Version 7.2 of the Elite Software Fire program for performing hydraulic calculations in accordance with NFPA 13 has just been released. Here is a free download for any current 7.0 user of the Fire software. If needing to upgrade from Version 6 to Version 7, see the upgrade prices here.

Fire 7.2 has expanded the allowable k-factor to 99,999. This is intended to allow large flows through one outlet that might feed into another complete system. The main feature added in 7.2 has to do with displaying pump curves in the pipe data and with how new pumps are added to the pump database. Fire pumps can be added with either metric of IP units. Fire 7.2 requires registration of the software. You can still have the software on up to three computers per license. See more details on registration and all the new features here.
